On May 9, the Kafulafuta water supply project in Zambia, executed under an EPC contract by China National Complete Engineering Corporation (CNCEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach Hainan Development Co., Ltd., was officially completed. Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema attended the ceremony and delivered a keynote speech, highly praising the company for its successful delivery of the project.

President Hichilema remarked, "The completion of the Kafulafuta water supply project not only reflects the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Zambia and China, but also signifies a new height in our bilateral relations." He emphasized that the project has raised the water supply capacity of the Copperbelt Province to historic levels, providing strong momentum for regional development. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese team for its professionalism and sincere collaboration.

Located in Zambia's Copperbelt Province, the Kafulafuta project is the country's largest integrated water conservancy hub to date. It includes a dam, water delivery pipes, pumping stations, and upgrades to urban water networks. The dam has a reservoir capacity of 125 million cubic meters, with an annual supply potential exceeding 100 million cubic meters. Supported by 132-kV substations and a modern transmission and distribution system, the project continuously delivers clean water to surrounding urban areas, greatly improving both water safety and quality standards.

This landmark public welfare project has significantly enhanced water access for nearly one million residents in areas including Ndola, Luanshya, and Masait, and also helped mitigate the region's water shortages exacerbated by climate change. As a flagship Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project, it stands as a new model of practical cooperation between China and Zambia. In addition to supporting livelihoods, the project will boost agricultural irrigation, and fishery development, while also driving regional economic recovery and industrial upgrades.

Despite challenges such as the project's scale and complex site conditions, CNCEC upheld its commitment to "scientific management and quality first", ensuring the successful delivery of the project. The project serves as a vivid example of China-Africa cooperation and a shared future under the BRI framework.
