On April 28, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani attended the groundbreaking inauguration ceremony of the 60-MW dual-fuel power plant project, constructed by China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC), in Nouakchott. He laid the foundation stone and unveiled the project plaque, officially marking the launch of the initiative.?

Mauritania's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mohamed Ould Khaled, delivered a keynote speech at the ceremony, emphasizing that the project is a key component of the country's national energy strategy and a major step toward modernizing its power infrastructure.

The event was also attended by Xiao Wensheng, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Mauritania, along with representatives from various embassies and political dignitaries. Sidi Salem, General Manager of SOMELEC — the project owner, and Chen Na, CFO and Deputy General Manager of CNEEC, were also present at the ceremony.

The launch of this project represents an important milestone in China-Mauritania energy cooperation and a shared commitment to sustainable development. Leveraging this opportunity, CNEEC aims to continue delivering benchmark green and low-carbon projects in Mauritania as well as across West Africa.

During her visit, Chen Na held a meeting with Minister Mohamed Ould Khaled to present the project's progress, technical strengths, and future work plans. Minister Khaled acknowledged the successful start of the project as a strong foundation for future collaboration and welcomed CNEEC's continued involvement in Mauritania's power infrastructure development to collectively advance the nation's energy modernization efforts.

On April 29, Chen Na met with Sidi Salem for further discussions on project implementation. Salem reaffirmed SOMELEC's full support and active cooperation to ensure the smooth execution of the project. Chen Na expressed her gratitude for SOMELEC's ongoing support and extended an invitation for Salem to visit CNEEC. Both parties agreed to strengthen their partnership and explore opportunities for broader cooperation in order to achieve more tangible results in the energy sector.
